The story behind Unzip Business

Practical experience of the customer journey, from the first question through to delivering the work.

EXPERIENCE BEYOND THE CLICK

I’ve done more than market a business.
I’ve had to deliver what it promised.

Over eight years in the service business, I’ve spoken to customers on the phone, visited them in person, quoted for work and closed sales. I’ve delivered the service, answered the follow-up questions and dealt with the occasional complaint or misunderstanding.

Alongside my partner’s online shop over the past couple of years, I’ve also worked through the different challenges of presenting products and selling online.

Across both businesses, I’ve handled websites, Google Business Profiles, social media, organic and paid traffic, Google and Facebook campaigns, graphics, photography and video. That experience has developed through doing the work around the everyday demands of running a business.

01 / THE WHOLE CUSTOMER JOURNEY

The enquiry is only
part of the story.

When I look at a website or campaign, I think about what happens next. What does someone need to understand before buying? What might make them hesitate? Does the message create expectations the business can actually meet?

An offer can generate plenty of enquiries and still leave you spending hours on conversations that go nowhere—or winning work that barely pays. The website, advertising and content need to support the sale that follows, not just the click that comes first.

That is the perspective I bring to Unzip Business: practical experience of the customer journey, from the first question through to delivering the work.

02 / THE EVERYDAY REALITY

I know what gets pushed
to the bottom of the list.

When you’re finishing a job, answering customers or getting orders out, updating the website can easily become something you’ll do later.

Over time, the small things build up. A service page stops reflecting what you offer. Business information needs updating. An online shop becomes a patchwork of product descriptions and photographs added at different times.

Creating content has its own practical challenges. With your hands full doing the work, you’re not always thinking about the camera angle, the lighting or the moment that would help a customer understand what’s involved. A clear sequence of real footage can show the care behind a job in a way a hurried end-of-day photograph might miss.

These details deserve attention, but finding time for all of them is difficult. I understand that because I’ve had to make those choices myself.

03 / WHY UNZIP

Why I started
Unzip Business

For years, websites, content and advertising were part of running the businesses I was involved in. I kept learning, testing and improving because the results mattered to us directly.

At one point, we brought in a marketing agency to see what specialist support could add. Comparing that work with campaigns I created and managed myself gave me more confidence in my own approach.

Unzip Business grew from that experience: combining an interest in the detail with a practical understanding of serving customers, delivering work and running a business. It’s an approach I now bring to helping other business owners.

04 / WHAT THAT MEANS FOR YOU

Practical experience.
Applied to your business.

Every business has its own customers, priorities and constraints. My experience gives me a starting point for asking better questions—not a reason to assume I already have every answer.

The aim is to understand what you need, agree what is worth doing and bring the website, marketing and content together around it. With clear scope, realistic expectations and attention to what happens after someone clicks.
